Hand Dryers VS Paper Towels

ENVIRONMENT
If 100 people use 3 paper towels, 5 times a day then you will use 390,000 towels a year! The vast majority of hand towels are not recycled and they release greenhouse gases when they decompose. In the USA 2% of total landfill is made up of paper towels – too much to compost, and their structure means they do not easily breakdown. Studies show that hand dryers produce only a third of the CO2 that paper towels do and suggest that modern high speed low energy dryers are around 70% more environmentally friendly than paper towels – saving approximately 24 trees during an average lifetime.

CLEANLINESS
There has been plenty of debate (believe it or not) over which method of drying hands represents the best option for cleanliness. Overall good washing and drying of the hands is the key point in preventing the multiplying and spread of germs – using modern high speed dryers reduces dry times to those similar to hand towels and are more likely to dry those areas missed by towels. If you want to avoid contamination then dry properly. At Stream Hygiene we actually have a dryer which sanitises the airflow before it reaches your hands – it depends how phobic you are! Hand dryers can save in excess of £1000 a year but in fact are just as often installed because of the mess created by towels or because towels end up blocking toilets.

Why Go Waterless?!?

Probably the biggest move towards an environmentally friendly washroom in a generation.

Most people have now changed their light bulbs to low energy alternatives but have you considered your water use? Modern urinal systems use around 10 litres per hour but older systems could run to nearly 30 – an eye watering 25,000 gallons a year per urinal! You are charged for water in and water out so a clean, odour-free alternative saving £350+ per urinal per annum, should be next on your list to look at!

They can be retro fitted, are very easy to install and are low maintenance.
